With over 20 years of experience in the field of International Education working with students and mid-career professionals in a variety of disciplines, I have experience with the administrative operational side of programs as well as the big picture strategic planning process. Since 2005, I have worked with university students in the Middle East. In my last position at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, I had primary responsibility for international student services and programming related to cultural diversity and community building. In that capacity, I designed and administered programs that contributed to the development of students’ global awareness and understanding of diversity. Through numerous collaborative initiatives with faculty and other departments, I expanded the opportunities for co-curricular learning. One particular area of interest is fostering meaningful cross-cultural interactions through music and the performing arts. By using this as an avenue to break through perceived barriers, I encouraged communication and exploration of different ideas and experiences. Prior to working at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, I was a Program Officer at the Institute of International Education; based in New York before joining a project team in Qatar in 2005. I enjoyed a professional sabbatical, which was a wonderful period for "recharging my battery", fueling my creativity, self-reflection and reaffirming my career goals. It allowed me time to focus on finding the right job opportunity while exploring personal interests and activities. In my current work, I am enjoying being able to apply my 18 years of overseas experience in higher education to the benefit of student development and programming as I work with U.S. Higher Education institutions, the EducationUSA network of advisers and students in the Middle East and North Africa region.
