International student accommodation: Exploring affordability, availability, and accountability

Despite a temporary 21% drop in value seen in 2021 as a result of the pandemic, the student accommodation sector has experienced exponential growth in both profitability and occupancy. However, the surge in applications from both local and international students has outpaced the capacity of Purpose-Built Student Accommodations (PBSAs), leading some to question the impact on existing housing. Additionally, the booking process has been affected, with international students increasingly concerned about security, contract flexibility, and the availability of preferred room types within budget and near campus.

In this webinar, industry experts clarify the current measures, addressing issues of affordability and availability. They also offer short-term solutions that education agencies can use to support their students. Finally, the panel explores the important question of who is responsible for ensuring students have access to appropriate housing.
